The Senior IT Officer is expected to support hotel technology operations, including networks, servers, computers, software, telecommunications and guest-facing systems. Typical requirements include a diploma or degree in Information Technology, computer science or a related discipline, together with several years of technical support experience, preferably in hospitality. The candidate should be confident troubleshooting hardware and software issues, managing incidents, maintaining documentation and supporting cybersecurity and data-protection procedures. Strong communication skills, customer service awareness and the ability to work independently are important. Because hotels operate around the clock, flexibility for shifts, weekends and emergency support may be required. Experience with hotel systems, Microsoft technologies, networking and vendor coordination would be advantageous.
Shangri-La is a major luxury hospitality group founded in Hong Kong, operating hotels, resorts and related properties across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international markets. The group is known for personalised service, premium accommodation, dining, wellness facilities and resort experiences. Shangri-La properties employ teams across hotel operations, technology, finance, engineering, food and beverage, sales and guest services. In Malaysia, the company has operated recognised city and resort properties, offering career opportunities in both business-hotel and leisure environments. Employees typically work in a multicultural setting with structured hospitality standards, ongoing training and opportunities for internal mobility. An IT Officer supports the reliability and security of the systems that enable reservations, communications, property management, point-of-sale services and daily hotel operations.
Malaysia offers opportunities in hospitality IT, hotel operations, tourism, finance, engineering and customer service, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and other resort destinations. Its island lifestyle varies: Langkawi is relaxed and beach-oriented, Penang combines heritage, food and urban living, while Sabah and Sarawak offer nature, diving and adventure. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in business and tourism. Living costs are generally moderate, though resort islands can be more expensive and seasonal. Foreign employees normally need an approved employment pass sponsored by the employer before starting work; requirements depend on nationality, salary and role. Candidates should confirm sponsorship, accommodation, transport, medical coverage and tax arrangements. Domestic flights, ferries and buses connect major cities and islands, but island jobs may involve quieter communities and fewer services.
