The Captain supports the smooth operation of Summer Palace, Shangri-La's Cantonese fine-dining restaurant, by supervising daily service, allocating sections, briefing colleagues and ensuring guests receive attentive, professional care. Candidates should have relevant experience in upscale restaurants or hotels, strong knowledge of food and beverage service, good communication skills and a customer-focused approach. Cantonese and English are valuable, while Mandarin may be advantageous. The successful candidate is expected to lead by example, maintain service and hygiene standards, handle guest requests or complaints confidently, coordinate with the kitchen and support team members during busy periods. Flexibility to work shifts, weekends and public holidays is normally required.
Shangri-La is a major luxury hospitality group founded in Hong Kong, operating hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international markets. The group is known for attentive Asian-inspired hospitality, high service standards and premium dining, wellness and guest-experience offerings. Shangri-La's Kowloon and Island Shangri-La properties are among Hong Kong's leading luxury hotels, serving business travellers, leisure guests and local residents. Summer Palace is the group's acclaimed Cantonese restaurant at Island Shangri-La, recognised for refined regional cuisine, elegant surroundings and formal service. Employees typically work in a structured hotel environment with opportunities for training, internal mobility and exposure to international guests. Benefits may include staff meals, uniforms, medical coverage, discounts and service charge, depending on the employment contract and grade.
Hong Kong is a fast-paced international city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with excellent public transport, diverse dining and easy access to beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands. Hospitality offers opportunities in luxury hotels, restaurants, bars, events, tourism and cruise-related services, although competition is strong and working hours can be demanding. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences; politeness, efficiency and respect for hierarchy are valued. Rent is high, especially near Central, Admiralty and major hotel districts, so many employees share accommodation or live farther from work. Overseas hires generally need an employment visa sponsored by the employer and must meet role and qualification requirements. Before relocating, confirm salary, service charge, accommodation, medical cover and visa support. Hong Kong uses the Hong Kong dollar and has reliable healthcare, banking and digital services.
