Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a compact, energetic city with strong opportunities in hotels, finance, retail, tourism, technology and professional services. Hospitality employees can find work in luxury hotels, restaurants, events and travel businesses, especially in Central, Tsim Sha Tsui, Causeway Bay and the airport area. The culture blends Cantonese traditions, international influences, excellent food and efficient public transport. Life is convenient but housing can be expensive, particularly near major business districts. Overseas professionals normally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer before starting work; approval depends on qualifications, relevant experience, a genuine position and suitable salary. Employers commonly assist with documentation and relocation, while dependants may qualify for dependant visas. Review current Immigration Department requirements, arrange accommodation and budget for deposits, transport and healthcare before moving.
