The Demi Chef – Bakery (Overnight) supports the pastry and bakery team in preparing breads, pastries, cakes and other baked products during overnight operations. Candidates should have culinary or pastry training and previous experience in a hotel, bakery or professional kitchen. Familiarity with dough preparation, proofing, baking, decoration, recipe standards and food-safety procedures is expected. The role requires good knife and equipment-handling skills, attention to detail, physical stamina and the ability to work independently during night shifts. The successful candidate will maintain cleanliness, control product quality, follow Shangri-La standards and cooperate closely with the wider kitchen team. Cantonese or English communication skills and flexibility to work weekends and public holidays are advantageous.
Shangri-La is a leading luxury hospitality group founded in Hong Kong, operating hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international destinations. The group is known for refined service, distinctive dining experiences and strong Asian-inspired hospitality values. Shangri-La hotels typically offer multiple restaurants, banquet facilities, bakeries, lounges and extensive guest services, creating opportunities for culinary professionals to work in high-volume, multicultural environments. In Hong Kong, the company operates prestigious properties serving business travellers, leisure guests, local diners and major events. Employees are generally expected to demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, respect, consistency and genuine care for guests. Benefits may include staff meals, uniforms, training, medical coverage and hotel discounts, although the exact package depends on the property, contract and employment grade.
Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, bakeries, catering, tourism, finance, technology and retail. Its hospitality sector is international and fast-paced, with demand for trained chefs and pastry professionals in luxury hotels, independent restaurants and large-scale events. Life combines dense urban neighbourhoods, excellent public transport, world-class dining and shopping with hiking trails, beaches and outlying islands. Cantonese is the main local language, while English is widely used in hotels and business. Overseas hires normally need an employer-sponsored employment visa under Hong Kong’s General Employment Policy; applicants generally require a confirmed job offer, relevant qualifications or experience and proof that the role cannot easily be filled locally. Employers often assist with the application, but accommodation and relocation costs should be confirmed in advance. Rents are high, so many employees share housing or live in districts outside the city centre.
