Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a dense, international city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, connected by an efficient MTR network, buses, ferries and trams. Hospitality, finance, retail, aviation, technology and security provide varied employment opportunities, with luxury hotels concentrated around Central, Admiralty, Wan Chai, Tsim Sha Tsui and major resort areas. Cantonese is the main local language, while English is widely used in business and hotels. The lifestyle is fast-paced, convenient and multicultural, with excellent dining, shopping, hiking and coastal recreation. Housing can be expensive, so many workers share accommodation or live farther from the city centre. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored employment visa, while dependants may qualify for dependant visas. Applicants should confirm eligibility, qualifications, contract benefits and accommodation support before relocating.
