About the employer

Shangri-La is a leading luxury hospitality group originating in Hong Kong and operating hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international markets. Its properties are known for personalised service, comfortable surroundings, distinctive dining and strong destination experiences. In Malaysia, Shangri-La operates several established hotels and resorts, including properties in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Kota Kinabalu. The group places emphasis on guest satisfaction, operational excellence, colleague development and responsible business practices. Employees typically work in a multicultural environment with opportunities to gain experience across hotel departments and, in some cases, within the wider Shangri-La network. A Chief Accountant supports the financial health of the property and works closely with operational leaders to maintain controls, improve performance and meet corporate and statutory reporting standards.

Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers opportunities in hospitality, finance, tourism, technology, healthcare, education and manufacturing, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences reflected in food, festivals, languages and everyday life. Island locations such as Langkawi, Penang and parts of Sabah provide a relaxed lifestyle, beaches, outdoor activities and a lower pace than major cities, although professional opportunities can be more limited. Living costs vary widely; Kuala Lumpur and Penang generally offer more services and transport, while resort destinations may require private transport. Foreign professionals normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with the company handling much of the application process and eligibility requirements. Candidates should confirm visa rules, salary thresholds, accommodation, tax obligations and medical coverage before relocating. English is widely used in business, while learning basic Malay is helpful.
