The Sous Chef (Banquet) supports the Executive Chef and leads banquet kitchen operations, including menu preparation, food production, plating, service coordination and kitchen organisation. Candidates typically need several years of professional culinary experience, preferably in a luxury hotel or high-volume banquet operation, along with strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, portion control and cost management. A culinary qualification is advantageous. The successful candidate is expected to supervise and train kitchen colleagues, maintain consistent food quality, work efficiently under pressure and coordinate closely with service and event teams. Flexibility for shifts, weekends and holidays, good communication, creativity and a hands-on leadership style are important.
Shangri-La is a luxury hospitality group founded in Hong Kong and recognised for its hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other destinations. Its Philippine properties are known for high service standards, extensive dining options, leisure facilities and strong attention to guest experience. The company places emphasis on warm, personalised hospitality, operational excellence and colleague development. Depending on the property, employees may receive benefits such as staff meals, uniforms, service charge, medical coverage, accommodation assistance or hotel discounts. A Sous Chef joining Shangri-La would work in a structured culinary environment with opportunities to support major banquets, weddings, conferences and resort events while learning international hotel standards.
The Philippines offers hospitality opportunities across Luzon, Cebu, Boracay, Palawan, Bohol and other resort islands. Hotels, restaurants, cruise operations and event venues regularly seek chefs, service staff, housekeeping teams and supervisors, with stronger demand in tourist centres and major cities. Filipino culture is generally warm, family-oriented and community-minded, and English is widely used in workplaces. Lifestyle varies from busy urban living in Manila to a more relaxed beach-resort routine on islands such as Boracay or Palawan. Costs are usually lower outside Manila, although popular resort areas can be expensive. Filipino citizens do not need a visa to work domestically. Foreign employees normally require employer sponsorship, an Alien Employment Permit and an appropriate work visa, commonly a 9(g) pre-arranged employee visa. Confirm current requirements with the employer and Philippine immigration authorities before relocating.
