Working in Singapore

Singapore is a compact, highly developed island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, finance, technology, healthcare, logistics and retail. Its multicultural society reflects Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences, with English widely used at work. Life is convenient and safe, with excellent public transport, modern healthcare, abundant dining and extensive shopping, although housing and daily expenses can be high. Popular neighbourhoods include Orchard, Marina Bay, Tiong Bahru, Katong and the East Coast. Foreign professionals generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass, subject to salary, qualifications and government criteria. Employers often assist with relocation, accommodation guidance and pass applications, but benefits vary by contract. New arrivals should budget carefully, understand local employment rules and secure suitable housing before starting work.
