Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a compact, energetic destination offering strong employment opportunities in hotels, tourism, restaurants, retail, finance, technology and professional services. Its culture blends Chinese traditions with international influences, and Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in business and hospitality. Life is fast-paced, convenient and generally safe, with excellent public transport, diverse food, hiking trails, beaches and a lively arts and nightlife scene. Accommodation can be expensive, particularly on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon, so many employees share flats or live in the New Territories. Overseas candidates normally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer and must meet immigration requirements before starting work. Employers often request proof of qualifications, work experience and a clean background. New arrivals should budget for rent, a deposit, transport and healthcare, and confirm whether the hotel provides meals, uniforms or staff accommodation.
