The role typically requires a diploma or degree in hospitality, business, marketing, or a related field, together with several years of hotel or resort sales experience. Strong knowledge of leisure, corporate, MICE, travel-trade, and local markets is valuable. The successful candidate is expected to build client and agency relationships, manage accounts, conduct sales visits and presentations, develop promotions, monitor competitors, and achieve monthly and annual revenue targets. Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is a leading luxury hospitality group founded in Hong Kong, with hotels, resorts, and city properties across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America, and other international markets. The group is known for Asian-inspired hospitality, high service standards, distinctive dining, wellness facilities, and memorable guest experiences. In Malaysia, Shangri-La operates several well-established properties, including Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa and Golden Sands Resort in Penang. Both resorts serve leisure travelers, families, groups, corporate clients, and meetings and events markets. Shangri-La places strong emphasis on personalized service, employee development, cultural awareness, sustainability, and operational excellence. Staff members typically work in a multicultural environment and may receive benefits such as meals, training, staff rates, medical coverage, incentives, and opportunities for internal or international career progression.
Malaysia offers strong hospitality opportunities in Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, and other coastal destinations, especially in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, events, and sales. Penang combines beaches, heritage streets, excellent food, shopping, and a relaxed urban lifestyle. Living costs are generally moderate, although beachfront accommodation can be more expensive. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous influences; English is widely used in tourism and business, while Malay is the national language. Employees should expect warm weather, occasional monsoon rain, and a service culture that values courtesy and teamwork. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored employment pass, with approval handled through Malaysian immigration authorities. Candidates should confirm sponsorship, accommodation, relocation support, tax, medical coverage, and probation terms before accepting an offer. Penang is well connected by air and road, making it practical for both work and travel.
