Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers opportunities in hospitality, IT, finance, education, manufacturing, tourism and digital services, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak. The country combines modern cities with beaches, rainforests and island destinations. Daily life is generally affordable compared with many international cities, although Kuala Lumpur and popular resort areas can be more expensive. Malaysia is culturally diverse, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in business and hospitality. Employees enjoy varied food, warm weather and convenient public transport in major urban areas. Foreign professionals normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with approval and eligibility depending on salary, qualifications and role. The employer usually manages the application. Candidates should confirm accommodation, medical coverage, tax registration and relocation costs before accepting an offer. Tourist or short-term entry permission does not allow employment.
