Working in Indonesia

Indonesia is an archipelago with varied opportunities across Java, Bali, Sumatra, Lombok and the eastern islands. Hospitality, tourism, security, engineering, food and beverage, technology and education regularly recruit both local and qualified international workers. Bali offers a relaxed, international lifestyle and strong tourism employment, while Jakarta provides larger corporate opportunities and faster-paced city living. Local culture values respect, community, modesty and religious diversity; learning basic Bahasa Indonesia is highly beneficial. Living costs vary greatly, with Bali’s popular areas often more expensive than smaller cities. Foreign nationals generally need an employer-sponsored work permit and appropriate limited-stay visa; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Employers normally guide applications, immigration registration and health requirements. Before relocating, confirm salary, accommodation, tax, insurance, transport and contract terms, and research local customs, climate, traffic and healthcare access.
