The Senior Security Officer is responsible for protecting guests, colleagues, hotel property and operations at Shangri-La in Hong Kong. Requirements typically include relevant hotel, security, law-enforcement or disciplined-services experience, good knowledge of emergency procedures, incident reporting and access control, and strong communication skills. Candidates should be physically fit, observant, calm under pressure and able to handle confidential matters professionally. The role may involve patrols, CCTV monitoring, responding to alarms and emergencies, investigating incidents, supporting fire and life-safety procedures, and supervising or guiding junior officers. Shift work, including nights, weekends and public holidays, is expected. Local security experience, relevant licences and Cantonese, English or Mandarin ability may be advantageous.
Shangri-La is a luxury hospitality group founded in Hong Kong and recognised for its Asian-inspired service, comfortable surroundings and strong emphasis on genuine care. The group operates hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international markets under brands including Shangri-La, Kerry Hotels, JEN and Traders. Its Hong Kong properties serve business travellers, leisure guests, local residents and major events, creating a fast-paced environment with high standards for safety, guest service and operational professionalism. Employees commonly work in multicultural teams and may receive training, staff dining, medical coverage, incentives or hotel-related benefits, depending on the property and employment terms. Shangri-La generally values integrity, respect, teamwork, discretion and a warm approach to guests, while security staff are expected to balance firm procedures with courteous hospitality.
Hong Kong is a compact, energetic destination made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with excellent public transport and easy access to beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands. Hospitality, security, retail, finance, technology, aviation and education provide regular employment opportunities, although competition is strong. The culture blends Chinese traditions with international influences; Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in business and hotels. Life is convenient but expensive, especially housing. New arrivals should budget carefully, compare shared accommodation and learn local transport options. Foreign employees normally need an employment visa sponsored by an approved employer before starting work; requirements include a valid offer, relevant qualifications or experience and proof that the role cannot readily be filled locally. Dependants may qualify for visas in eligible cases. Check current rules with Hong Kong Immigration before relocating. Weather is hot and humid in summer, with occasional typhoons.
