Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a compact, highly connected city with a busy international hospitality, tourism, property and facilities-management sector. Technical workers can find opportunities in hotels, shopping malls, hospitals, offices, residential estates and transport facilities. Cantonese is widely used, while English is common in international hotels and workplaces; Mandarin is also valuable. Life combines dense urban neighbourhoods, excellent public transport, diverse food and vibrant cultural events with beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands. Rent can be expensive, especially near major business districts, so many newcomers share accommodation or live in areas connected by rail. Overseas employees generally need an employer-sponsored employment visa, supported by qualifications, experience and a confirmed job offer. Dependants may qualify for accompanying visas. Before relocating, confirm visa sponsorship, housing, medical coverage, working hours and eligibility to work with the employer and Hong Kong Immigration Department.
