Major employment centres include Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Canberra; Adelaide generally offers a lower cost of living than Sydney or Melbourne. Australian workplace culture is practical, relatively informal and focused on inclusion, safety, clear communication and work-life balance. Lifestyle options range from beaches and outdoor activities to arts, food and multicultural communities, although distances are large and public transport varies by city. Skilled migrants may use employer-sponsored visas, the Skilled Independent or State/Territory Nominated pathways, or graduate visas, depending on qualifications and occupation lists. Before relocating, check current Department of Home Affairs rules, licensing requirements, health insurance, tax, housing costs and employment conditions. A valid work right is required before starting employment.
