Working in Taiwan

Taiwan offers strong opportunities in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, healthcare, technology, manufacturing, finance, and international business, particularly in Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, and Kaohsiung. Workplace culture generally values respect, preparation, teamwork, and relationship building, while multinational companies often use English alongside Mandarin. Life is convenient, with excellent public transport, reliable healthcare, affordable local food, vibrant night markets, mountains, beaches, and a lively cultural scene. Taipei is more expensive than other cities, especially for housing, but daily expenses remain manageable compared with many major Asian capitals. Foreign professionals usually need an employer-sponsored work permit and an appropriate resident visa; qualified specialists may be eligible for an Employment Gold Card. Relocating requires arranging health insurance, housing, banking, tax registration, and possibly school places. Mandarin is useful for daily life, although many corporate roles operate partly in English. Check current immigration requirements before moving.
