Working in Japan

Japan offers strong opportunities in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, healthcare, engineering, technology, finance, education, and manufacturing, particularly around Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Yokohama, and the Shonan area. Workplace culture values reliability, teamwork, respect, preparation, and attention to detail, although international companies often use more flexible and English-friendly practices. Japan provides excellent public transport, healthcare, safety, food, and cultural experiences, but housing, commuting, and childcare can be expensive in major cities. Foreign professionals normally need employer sponsorship for a work status such as Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services or Highly Skilled Professional. A Certificate of Eligibility is commonly arranged before arrival. Families may require dependent visas, and residents must register locally and enroll in health insurance and pension systems. Learning basic Japanese improves daily life and workplace integration. Fujisawa offers coastal living, access to Tokyo, and a more relaxed lifestyle than central Tokyo.
