The Economic Crime Risk Manager will develop, maintain and improve desktop procedures supporting Barclays’ financial crime risk framework. Responsibilities typically include translating policies and regulatory requirements into clear operating guidance, assessing control effectiveness, identifying process gaps, and working with compliance, operations and business teams to implement improvements. Candidates should have experience in financial crime prevention, risk management, compliance, procedures or controls, ideally within banking or financial services. Strong knowledge of anti-money laundering, sanctions, fraud or broader economic crime risks is valuable. The role requires excellent written communication, attention to detail, sound judgement, stakeholder-management skills and the ability to interpret complex regulatory expectations into practical instructions.
Barclays is a major British banking and financial services group with operations across the United Kingdom and international markets. Its businesses include consumer banking, corporate and commercial banking, investment banking, wealth management and payment services. The company serves individuals, small businesses, large corporations, institutions and governments. Barclays places significant emphasis on financial crime prevention, risk management, regulatory compliance, technology and responsible banking, making specialist risk and control roles central to its operations. The bank offers structured career development, flexible working options in many teams, employee benefits and opportunities to work with colleagues across different business areas and countries. Its Northampton operations support important customer, technology, operations and control functions, while the wider organisation combines the resources of a large global bank with a strong heritage in the UK.
The United Kingdom offers employment opportunities in banking, technology, healthcare, engineering, education, retail and professional services. London is the main financial centre, while cities such as Northampton, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Edinburgh and Glasgow also provide substantial career options. British workplace culture generally values punctuality, professionalism, clear communication, inclusion and a healthy separation between work and personal life. Lifestyle options range from lively urban communities to quieter towns and countryside, although housing and transport costs vary considerably. Skilled overseas applicants usually need a suitable work visa, commonly employer-sponsored routes such as the Skilled Worker visa, and must meet salary, qualification and English-language requirements. A confirmed job offer and sponsorship eligibility are normally required before relocation. Applicants should check current UK government immigration rules, healthcare arrangements, taxation, accommodation costs and local transport before moving.
