The Business Development Manager will help grow Barclaycard Payments by identifying new commercial opportunities, developing relationships with prospective clients and presenting tailored payment solutions. The role typically requires experience in business development, consultative B2B sales, payments or financial services, strong commercial awareness and the ability to manage a sales pipeline from prospecting through to completion. Candidates should be confident negotiating with senior stakeholders, explaining complex products clearly and using data to support decisions. The position also demands self-motivation, strong organisation, teamwork and a customer-focused approach. Experience with card acquiring, merchant services or the wider payments industry would be advantageous.
Barclays is a major British bank and financial services group serving individual customers, businesses, institutions and governments. Its services include personal and business banking, lending, payments, wealth management, investment banking and corporate finance. Barclaycard Payments is the bank’s merchant acquiring and payment solutions business, helping retailers and other organisations accept card and digital payments through technology, processing services and commercial support. Barclays operates across the United Kingdom and international markets, combining a long-established banking presence with continued investment in digital products, data and innovation. Employees generally work in a regulated, performance-focused environment where customer outcomes, responsible business practices, collaboration and risk management are important. The company also offers structured career development, wellbeing support and flexible working arrangements for many roles.
The United Kingdom offers opportunities in banking, fintech, payments, technology, healthcare, engineering, retail and professional services. London is the largest financial centre, while cities such as Northampton, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and Edinburgh also have strong employment markets. British culture is generally polite, diverse and multicultural, with an emphasis on punctuality, personal space and clear workplace communication. Lifestyle varies from busy urban living to quieter towns and countryside, although housing and transport costs can be high. Most overseas applicants need a visa, commonly the Skilled Worker visa, sponsored by an eligible employer; eligibility depends on the occupation, salary and immigration rules. Applicants should check Barclays’ sponsorship policy and current UK government requirements. Relocation usually involves arranging accommodation, a National Insurance number, banking, healthcare access and council tax registration.
