About the employer

United Overseas Bank (UOB) is a major Southeast Asian bank headquartered in Singapore, with operations spanning Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong, Japan, India, Australia, and the United Kingdom. The group provides personal financial services, commercial and corporate banking, transaction banking, wealth management, investment banking, and capital-markets services. UOB Thailand serves individual and business customers through banking products, lending, treasury, cash management, and advisory solutions. As a regional institution, UOB places strong emphasis on responsible banking, financial-crime prevention, risk governance, digital transformation, and cross-border connectivity. Employees typically work in a structured, multinational environment with opportunities to collaborate across markets. Compliance professionals can gain exposure to varied regulatory frameworks, complex financial products, and regional policy implementation while supporting the bank’s commitment to integrity and sound conduct.

Working in Thailand

Thailand offers opportunities in banking, compliance, technology, hospitality, education, healthcare, logistics, and tourism, with Bangkok as the main corporate hub and Phuket, Koh Samui, and other islands focused on hospitality and services. The culture values respect, modesty, friendliness, and consideration; learning basic Thai is helpful. Bangkok provides the widest career choices, while island living offers beaches, outdoor activities, slower routines, and generally lower costs, although housing and imported goods can be expensive in tourist areas. Foreign professionals normally need an employer-sponsored Non-Immigrant B visa and work permit before starting employment; employers usually support the process. A long-term residence or other specialized visa may suit eligible senior professionals, but requirements change. Research tax, healthcare, schooling, transport, and insurance before relocating. For a Bangkok role, living near public transit is practical, while weekend trips to Thailand’s islands provide an easy lifestyle balance.
