Working in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka offers career opportunities in apparel manufacturing, sustainability, engineering, information technology, tourism, finance, logistics, healthcare, and business services. Colombo and nearby industrial areas have the widest selection of professional roles, while Kandy, Galle, and other regions provide opportunities in tourism, manufacturing, and services. The island has a warm tropical climate, diverse food, beaches, mountains, wildlife, and a strong cultural heritage shaped by Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, and Christian traditions. Living costs are generally lower than in many global cities, though Colombo housing and imported goods can be expensive. English is widely used in business, alongside Sinhala and Tamil. Foreign nationals normally require an employment visa or residence approval sponsored by an authorised employer; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Candidates should confirm current immigration rules, healthcare arrangements, accommodation, and taxation before relocating.
