Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel manufacturing, information technology, finance, tourism, logistics, engineering and shared services. Colombo and nearby areas have the largest concentration of corporate and technology jobs, while Kandy, Galle, Katunayake and regional industrial zones also provide employment. The island has a warm tropical climate, diverse food, strong family and community traditions, and a lifestyle that can be both affordable and relaxed. English is widely used in professional workplaces, while Sinhala and Tamil are the main local languages. Foreign nationals normally need an employment visa or residence approval sponsored by an eligible employer before starting work; requirements should be confirmed with the Sri Lankan Department of Immigration and Emigration. Relocating employees should arrange accommodation, health insurance, banking access and tax advice. Public transport is inexpensive, although traffic can be heavy around Colombo. Sri Lanka is known for beaches, mountains, wildlife, historic cities and welcoming communities.
