The Chief Engineer will lead engineering and maintenance operations for Shangri-La Rasa Sayang Resort and Golden Sands Resort, ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of buildings, utilities, plant, equipment and guest facilities. Requirements typically include a relevant engineering qualification, substantial experience in hotel or resort engineering, strong knowledge of electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, fire-life-safety and preventive-maintenance systems, and the ability to manage budgets, contractors and technical teams. Experience in a large luxury resort environment and relevant Malaysian technical certifications would be advantageous.
Shangri-La Group is a leading luxury hospitality company founded in Hong Kong, with hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international markets. Its portfolio includes the Shangri-La, Kerry, JEN and Traders brands. Shangri-La properties are known for attentive service, attractive locations, extensive guest facilities and a strong emphasis on warm Asian hospitality. In Malaysia, the group operates well-established properties including Shangri-La Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa and Golden Sands Resort in Penang, as well as hotels in Kuala Lumpur and other destinations. The company employs colleagues across hotel operations, food and beverage, engineering, wellness, finance and commercial functions. A senior engineering position with Shangri-La generally offers exposure to complex resort infrastructure, structured operating standards and a multicultural working environment.
Penang is Malaysia’s best-known island destination and home to Rasa Sayang and Golden Sands in Batu Feringgi. It combines beaches, heritage architecture, lively food markets and a multicultural society shaped by Malay, Chinese, Indian and colonial influences. Job opportunities are strongest in hotels, restaurants, tourism, healthcare, education, technology and property services. The lifestyle is relatively relaxed, with affordable local food, shopping, outdoor activities and easy access to George Town; traffic and humid weather are common considerations. Foreign professionals normally require an employment pass sponsored by their employer, with approval handled before starting work. Employers may assist with relocation, accommodation, flights, insurance and permits, although these benefits vary by contract. New arrivals should budget for rental deposits, transport and private healthcare, and confirm tax, work-permit and family-visa arrangements with the company. Penang International Airport provides useful domestic and regional connections.
