Working in United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven emirates rather than an island, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the largest range of hospitality, engineering, construction, facilities and service-sector opportunities. Life is modern, international and generally convenient, with excellent transport, shopping, beaches and year-round sunshine, although summers are extremely hot. The culture combines Islamic traditions, Arabic hospitality and a highly diverse expatriate population; modest dress and respect for local customs are important. Employers usually sponsor work visas, residence permits, medical checks and Emirates ID applications, while UAE Nationals follow local employment and Emiratisation arrangements. Relocating candidates should confirm accommodation, transport, insurance, probation terms and benefits in the written offer. Living costs can be high, especially in Dubai, so housing or an allowance is valuable. The UAE has no personal income tax on salaries, but employees should budget carefully for rent and utilities.
