About the employer

Shangri-La Group is a Hong Kong-headquartered luxury hospitality company operating hotels, resorts and related businesses across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other international markets. Its portfolio includes the Shangri-La, Kerry, JEN and Traders brands, as well as restaurants, residences and wellness facilities. The group is known for Asian-inspired hospitality, attentive service and a strong emphasis on guest experience. Corporate functions support a geographically diverse organisation involving hotel operations, property development, commercial partnerships, procurement, technology and regulatory compliance. A corporate counsel role with Shangri-La would typically involve working with senior stakeholders across multiple countries and business lines, requiring a practical understanding of the hospitality industry and the legal issues affecting an international consumer-facing group.

Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a global business centre with strong opportunities in hospitality, finance, technology, professional services, retail and international trade. Its culture blends Chinese traditions with international influences, and English is widely used in business alongside Cantonese and Mandarin. The lifestyle is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse dining, vibrant arts and nightlife, hiking trails, beaches and nearby islands. Housing can be expensive, particularly in central districts, although Kowloon and the New Territories offer more choice. Overseas professionals generally need an employment visa sponsored by a Hong Kong employer; applicants must show relevant qualifications, experience and a genuine position not readily filled locally. Employers commonly assist with visa applications and relocation. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, health insurance, banking and tax registration, and understand local employment and tenancy rules before moving.
