Working in Singapore

Singapore is a compact, highly connected city-state and a major hub for hospitality, tourism, finance, technology and regional marketing roles. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is multicultural, efficient and generally respectful, with excellent public transport, reliable healthcare, strong personal safety and extensive dining and shopping options. Lifestyle costs can be high, especially rent, but public transport and everyday services are convenient. Foreign professionals normally require employer-sponsored permission such as an Employment Pass or S Pass, subject to salary, qualifications and government approval; the employer usually manages the application. New arrivals should budget for housing deposits, insurance and relocation costs. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain, so suitable clothing and adaptable routines are helpful.
