About the employer

Shangri-La Group is a leading luxury hospitality company founded in Hong Kong, operating hotels, resorts, and related businesses across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America, and other international markets. Its hotels are known for warm Asian hospitality, high service standards, quality dining, and well-developed guest facilities. Shangri-La places strong emphasis on colleague development, professionalism, teamwork, and personalized guest experiences. The group operates several properties in Hong Kong, including luxury city hotels and resort-style destinations, offering career opportunities across culinary, food and beverage, rooms, engineering, sales, and corporate functions. Employees may benefit from structured training, staff meals, uniform provision, service-related benefits, and opportunities for internal mobility, subject to the property and employment terms. This role is likely based in a Shangri-La kitchen in Hong Kong and would suit an early-career chef seeking experience in a premium international hotel.

Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, catering, retail, finance, technology, logistics, and tourism. Its hospitality industry is international and fast-paced, with demand for cooks and kitchen professionals in luxury hotels, restaurants, clubs, and large catering operations. The culture combines Cantonese traditions, festivals, efficient urban living, and global influences. Lifestyle options range from dense city neighborhoods and excellent public transport to hiking trails, beaches, islands, and a vibrant food scene. Housing is expensive, so many workers share apartments or live in areas outside Central and Kowloon. Foreign nationals generally need an employer-sponsored employment visa before starting work; the employer normally submits the application and proves the role and applicant’s suitability. A valid passport, employment contract, qualifications, and medical or background documents may be required. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, a Hong Kong Identity Card, banking, insurance, and local transport access. Conditions depend on the contract and immigration approval.
