Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a dynamic city and island territory with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, catering, retail, finance, technology and tourism. Hospitality workers can find positions in luxury hotels, independent restaurants, bakeries and large convention venues, although competition is high and Cantonese may be useful for some roles. The culture combines Chinese traditions with international influences, and the city is known for efficient public transport, excellent food, festivals and a fast-paced lifestyle. Housing is expensive and living spaces are often compact, especially on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon. Overseas employees generally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer before starting work; requirements include a confirmed offer, suitable qualifications and proof that the role cannot easily be filled locally. Applicants should confirm visa, accommodation, medical and relocation benefits directly with Shangri-La.
