Working in Indonesia

Indonesia offers hospitality and sales opportunities across Java, Bali, Lombok, Batam and other destinations. Jakarta, on Java, is the main corporate and MICE market, while Bali is stronger for resorts, weddings, incentives and international events. Indonesian workplace culture values respect, relationship building, hierarchy and polite communication; networking and local market knowledge are particularly important in hotel sales. Lifestyle ranges from busy metropolitan living in Jakarta to a more relaxed beach-oriented environment in Bali or Lombok. Costs vary considerably, with Jakarta and popular Bali areas often requiring higher housing budgets. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship and an appropriate work permit and stay permit, commonly arranged through the hiring company; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Candidates should confirm sponsorship, contract terms, accommodation, insurance, taxation and relocation support before accepting an offer. Learning basic Indonesian is highly beneficial.
