Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, events, tourism and corporate sales, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak. Island destinations such as Langkawi, Penang and parts of Sabah provide a relaxed coastal lifestyle, beaches, outdoor activities and diverse food cultures, while Kuala Lumpur offers broader career development and urban amenities. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in hospitality. Living costs vary, with resort locations sometimes offering staff accommodation or meals. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored employment pass, and approval must be obtained before starting work. Candidates should confirm visa eligibility, contract terms, service charge, housing and insurance directly with Shangri-La. Relocation planning should include transport, local banking, healthcare access and seasonal weather, including monsoon conditions in some regions.
