In Malaysia, Shangri-La properties serve business and leisure travellers in destinations such as Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Kota Kinabalu. Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, technology and shared services, with particularly strong demand in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and other resort destinations. Its culture combines Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, reflected in food, festivals, languages and everyday customs. Lifestyle ranges from fast-paced city living to relaxed island and coastal communities, with generally affordable food and transport outside central Kuala Lumpur. Foreign nationals normally require an employer-sponsored work pass, and they should secure an approved offer before starting work; requirements depend on nationality, role and salary. Employers commonly assist with the Employment Pass process, but applicants should confirm current rules with Malaysian immigration authorities. Relocation planning should include accommodation, medical cover, transport, banking, taxes and climate preparation, as Malaysia is hot and humid with seasonal heavy rain.
