Established in 1971, the group operates properties under the Shangri-La, Shangri-La Resorts, JEN by Shangri-La and other brands across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and Africa. Its hotels are known for refined service, distinctive local character and the group’s signature philosophy of genuine care. Corporate employees support a broad international network covering hotel operations, development, finance, technology, human resources, sales and legal affairs. Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hospitality, finance, law, technology, retail, trading and professional services, with many regional headquarters based in Central, Admiralty, Quarry Bay and Kowloon. The culture blends Cantonese traditions, international influences, efficient public services and a fast-paced working style. Residents enjoy excellent food, nightlife, shopping, hiking, beaches and convenient transport, although housing is expensive and apartments are often compact. Eligible overseas professionals generally require an employment visa, commonly through the General Employment Policy, supported by a confirmed job offer, suitable qualifications and market-level compensation. Employers usually assist with sponsorship and documentation. Relocating employees should budget for rent deposits, healthcare, schooling if applicable and daily expenses. Hong Kong’s transport network is extensive, and English is widely used in business, though Cantonese or Mandarin can help socially and professionally.
