Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, tourism, restaurants, finance, retail, logistics, technology and international business. The city combines Cantonese traditions, British influences and a highly global outlook. Life is fast-paced and convenient, with excellent public transport, extensive dining, lively neighbourhoods, hiking trails and easy access to beaches and outlying islands. Housing is compact and can be expensive, so many newcomers share accommodation or live in districts outside the central areas. English is widely used in professional settings, while Cantonese is valuable for daily life and customer-facing work; Mandarin is also useful. Most foreign employees need an employment visa sponsored by an employer, and approval depends on qualifications, a confirmed offer and proof that the role cannot readily be filled locally. New arrivals should budget for deposits, transport, healthcare and documentation, and confirm shift patterns and staff accommodation with the hotel before relocating.
