The Captain supports the smooth operation of Summer Palace, Shangri-La Hong Kong’s Chinese fine-dining restaurant. Candidates should have relevant experience in upscale restaurants or hotels, strong knowledge of Chinese cuisine and service standards, and excellent communication skills. The role involves supervising assigned service areas, welcoming and assisting guests, taking orders, coordinating with the kitchen, handling guest requests, and ensuring table presentation and service quality. Fluency in English and Cantonese is highly desirable, while Mandarin is an advantage. The successful candidate should be well-groomed, attentive, reliable, commercially aware, and able to work flexible shifts, weekends, and public holidays. A positive attitude, teamwork, and the ability to remain composed during busy periods are expected.
Shangri-La Group is a leading luxury hospitality company founded in Hong Kong, operating hotels, resorts, and related businesses across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America, and other international markets. Its properties are known for personalized service, refined accommodation, distinctive dining, and strong local character. Shangri-La Hong Kong is located in Admiralty and includes the Michelin-starred Summer Palace, a renowned Cantonese restaurant serving traditional cuisine with contemporary presentation. The group places emphasis on guest satisfaction, professional development, teamwork, and responsible hospitality. Employees typically work in a multicultural environment with opportunities to build careers across hotel departments and international properties. Benefits may include meals, uniforms, training, medical coverage, service charge, and staff rates, depending on the employment package and local policies.
Hong Kong offers excellent opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, finance, retail, technology, and professional services. Hospitality workers can find roles in luxury hotels, independent restaurants, event venues, and cruise or travel companies, although competition is strong. The culture blends Chinese traditions with international influences; Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in business and tourism. Life is fast-paced, highly connected, and convenient, with efficient public transport, diverse food, shopping, hiking, beaches, and vibrant nightlife. Housing is expensive, so many employees share accommodation or live in areas outside Central. Foreign employees generally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer before starting work. The employer must usually demonstrate that the role requires an overseas hire and provide a valid contract. Bring certified qualifications and employment records, and confirm medical, insurance, accommodation, and visa arrangements before relocating. Hong Kong is a city rather than an island-only destination, but Hong Kong Island is its central business and cultural area.
