Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a compact coastal city and major international business hub, although it is not a single island; Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories form the main urban area. Hospitality, finance, retail, technology, aviation and professional services provide many job opportunities. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in hotels and business settings. The culture blends Chinese traditions with international influences, and residents enjoy excellent food, efficient public transport, hiking, beaches and a lively arts scene. Housing is expensive and apartments are usually small, so researching accommodation and commuting costs is important. Eligible overseas professionals generally need an employment visa sponsored by a Hong Kong employer, with approval depending on qualifications, salary and whether the role cannot readily be filled locally. Employers normally guide successful candidates through documentation. Bring authenticated qualifications, references and a valid passport, and budget for deposits, healthcare, transport and initial living expenses.
