Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong offers varied opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, finance, technology and professional services. Hospitality workers can find roles in housekeeping, food and beverage, front office and guest services, especially in Central, Tsim Sha Tsui, Causeway Bay and major resort areas. The culture is fast-paced, international and strongly influenced by Cantonese traditions, while English is widely used in hotels and business. Public transport is excellent, although housing is expensive and living space can be limited. Work visa applicants generally need a confirmed job offer, relevant qualifications or experience and employer sponsorship under the General Employment Policy; employers normally support the application. Mainland Chinese residents may use different arrangements. New arrivals should budget for rent deposits, transport, healthcare and daily expenses, and check employment terms, accommodation and service-charge policies carefully before relocating.
