Indonesia offers diverse opportunities across Bali, Java, Lombok, Sumatra and other islands. Hospitality, tourism, events, sales, technology and education are especially active sectors, with Jakarta, Bali and major resort destinations attracting international employers. Bali suits people seeking a social, outdoor lifestyle with beaches, wellness and a large expatriate community, while Jakarta provides stronger corporate and MICE opportunities but has heavier traffic and a faster pace. Indonesian culture values courtesy, community, religious diversity and respectful relationships; learning basic Bahasa Indonesia is highly useful. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and appropriate limited-stay visa, arranged before starting work. Requirements and permitted activities vary, so confirm details with the employer and Indonesian immigration authorities. Research housing, healthcare, transport, taxation and insurance before relocating. Salaries and benefits differ considerably between islands and hotel properties.
