Working in United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven emirates rather than an island, combining modern cities, desert landscapes and a long Gulf coastline. Hospitality, tourism, aviation, retail, events, construction, technology and healthcare provide many employment opportunities, particularly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The culture blends Emirati traditions with a large international community; modest dress, respectful behaviour and awareness of Islamic customs are important. Lifestyle can be energetic and cosmopolitan, with excellent dining, shopping and beaches, although summers are extremely hot. Foreign workers normally require an employer-sponsored work visa, residency permit, medical examination and Emirates ID; UAE Nationals follow different employment arrangements. Employers may provide accommodation, transport, meals or insurance, but packages vary. New arrivals should check contract terms, probation, working hours, gratuity, housing costs and document requirements before relocating.
