Candidates should have strong communication, organisation and customer-service skills, good attention to detail, and confidence handling multiple deadlines. Experience in hotel sales, conferences, banquets or event coordination is advantageous. The role requires professional English, computer literacy and a polished manner when dealing with corporate clients, wedding parties and other event organisers. Flexibility is expected, including occasional evenings, weekends and public holidays. The successful candidate should be commercially minded, service-focused and able to work closely with food and beverage, front office and operations teams.

In Malaysia, Shangri-La operates several recognised properties, including city hotels and resort destinations, serving leisure travellers, corporate guests, weddings and large events. Malaysia offers varied work and lifestyle options across the mainland and islands. Kuala Lumpur provides the largest concentration of hotel, corporate-events and sales opportunities, while Penang combines heritage culture, strong food traditions and a growing hospitality sector. Langkawi is attractive for resort, tourism and event roles, with beaches, outdoor activities and a slower pace of life. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, and English is widely used in hotels. Living costs are moderate, though island resorts may have fewer urban amenities. Employers normally arrange or support an Employment Pass for eligible foreign professionals; approval depends on qualifications, salary and current immigration rules. Candidates should confirm sponsorship, accommodation, insurance, transport and contract terms before relocating. Local staff generally need valid work authorisation, while tourist entry does not permit employment.
