Working in United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, with extensive coastlines and resort destinations. Hospitality, tourism, events, aviation, retail and construction provide strong employment opportunities, particularly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The culture combines Islamic traditions with a highly international lifestyle; modest dress and respectful public behavior are expected. Employees enjoy modern shopping, restaurants, beaches, desert activities and excellent transport, although summers are extremely hot. Expatriate workers normally require an employer-sponsored residence visa, work permit and medical screening. Employers often arrange health insurance and may provide accommodation, transport or flight allowances. Before relocating, confirm the written contract, salary, working hours, accommodation, probation terms and visa sponsorship. Costs can be high, especially for housing, so budgeting is important.
