Working in Malaysia

Penang is a Malaysian island known for its beaches, heritage streets, food culture and relaxed coastal lifestyle. Hospitality, tourism, sales, food and beverage, retail, healthcare, education and technology provide common employment opportunities, especially around George Town and Batu Feringgi. Local culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian and international influences, with festivals, temples, mosques, markets and celebrated street food. Living costs are generally lower than Kuala Lumpur, although central and beach areas can be more expensive. Malaysia normally requires foreign employees to obtain employer-sponsored work authorisation, such as an Employment Pass, before starting work; requirements depend on nationality, salary and role. Relocating candidates should confirm visa sponsorship, accommodation, tax registration, healthcare coverage and transport arrangements with the employer. English is widely used in hotels, while Malay and Chinese languages are valuable locally.
