Working in Malaysia

Malaysia is a diverse country with opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail, technology, manufacturing, and professional services. Popular island destinations such as Langkawi, Penang, Redang, and Tioman offer resort, diving, marine-tourism, and food-and-beverage jobs, while Kuala Lumpur and major mainland cities provide broader employment options. Malaysian culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian, Indigenous, and international influences, with excellent food and generally friendly communities. Lifestyle costs are moderate, although island accommodation and imported goods can be expensive. Public transport is stronger in cities than on smaller islands, where scooters and ferries are common. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work permit or employment pass before starting work; employers usually manage the application. Candidates should confirm visa eligibility, accommodation, medical requirements, contract terms, service charges, and relocation costs directly with the hotel.
