The Assistant Security Manager supports the Security Manager in protecting guests, employees, property and hotel assets. Typical requirements include experience in hotel security, hospitality, law enforcement or a related field; knowledge of emergency procedures, incident reporting, access control and local regulations; and good communication skills in English and, ideally, Malay. The successful candidate is expected to supervise security officers, conduct patrols and investigations, coordinate emergency responses, maintain accurate records, train team members and work closely with other departments. A professional appearance, sound judgment, physical fitness, confidentiality, leadership ability and flexibility for rotating shifts, weekends and public holidays are important.
Shangri-La Group is a major Asian hospitality company operating luxury hotels, resorts and related businesses across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and other international markets. Founded in Singapore, the group is known for its Shangri-La, Shangri-La Resorts, Traders Hotels and other hospitality brands. Its properties generally focus on thoughtful service, comfortable accommodation, dining, wellness and business or leisure experiences. In Malaysia, Shangri-La has operated hotels and resorts in destinations including Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kota Kinabalu and other prominent locations. Employees typically work in a multicultural environment with structured operational standards, guest-service training and opportunities to develop within the wider hotel group.
Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, security, engineering, finance and guest services. Popular island destinations include Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, Redang and parts of Sabah and Sarawak, while Kuala Lumpur remains the main corporate hub. Life on the islands is generally relaxed and community-oriented, with beaches, outdoor activities, local markets and diverse Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous cultures. Costs and transport can be higher or less convenient on smaller islands, and seasonal tourism affects available work. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored employment pass, with approval required before starting work; the employer usually handles much of the process. Candidates should verify salary, accommodation, medical coverage, transport, contract terms and visa eligibility before relocating. Malay is useful, while English is widely used in international hotels.
