Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers hospitality opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang Island, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and resort areas. Hotels and restaurants regularly recruit staff in stewarding, kitchens, housekeeping, front office and food and beverage. Penang combines a multicultural heritage, excellent food and a relaxed island lifestyle, while Langkawi is quieter and strongly tourism-focused. Malay, English, Mandarin and several local languages are commonly heard. Living costs vary, with resort islands sometimes charging more for accommodation and transport. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship and an approved employment pass or relevant work permit before starting work; requirements depend on nationality, salary and role. Employers may assist with permits, accommodation and relocation, but these benefits should be confirmed in the contract. Malaysia has a warm tropical climate, so suitable clothing, health insurance and readiness for shift work are important.
