Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, finance, technology and professional services, particularly for candidates with language skills and international experience. The culture combines Cantonese traditions, international influences, efficient urban living and a fast-paced work ethic. Daily life is convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, hiking trails and easy access to beaches and outlying islands. Hong Kong is geographically connected to the mainland but includes Hong Kong Island and many surrounding islands. Foreign professionals normally need an approved employment visa before starting work; employers generally sponsor applications under the General Employment Policy, while eligible Mainland Chinese applicants follow separate arrangements. Relocating employees should budget carefully for high rent, arrange accommodation and insurance, and check tax, visa and dependent requirements before arrival.
