The successful candidate is expected to maintain Shangri-La’s cleanliness and presentation standards, use cleaning equipment safely, respond courteously to guests, report maintenance issues, and work reliably as part of a team. Hospitality training or experience in a luxury hotel is advantageous, but motivated candidates with a positive attitude may also be considered.

About the employer

Shangri-La is a major luxury hospitality group founded in Hong Kong and inspired by the legendary Himalayan paradise described in James Hilton’s novel Lost Horizon. The group operates hotels, resorts, and related hospitality businesses across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America, and other international markets. Shangri-La properties are known for attentive service, comfortable accommodation, extensive dining facilities, and strong local cultural connections. The company places emphasis on genuine hospitality, professional development, teamwork, and creating memorable guest experiences. Its Hong Kong hotels serve business and leisure travellers and offer opportunities across housekeeping, food and beverage, front office, engineering, wellness, finance, and management. Employees may receive benefits such as staff meals, uniforms, training, medical coverage, service charge, and discounted stays, depending on the property and employment terms.

Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a compact coastal city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories, and numerous outlying islands. Hospitality offers many opportunities in luxury hotels, restaurants, clubs, events, and tourism, particularly for applicants with customer-service, language, or hotel experience. Cantonese is widely used, while English is common in international workplaces and Mandarin is valuable. Life is fast-paced, safe, and highly connected, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, hiking, beaches, and vibrant cultural districts. Rental housing is expensive, so many employees share accommodation or live farther from the city centre. Overseas workers normally need an approved employment visa sponsored by an employer before starting work; eligibility depends on qualifications, salary, and labour-market requirements. Applicants should confirm contract terms, accommodation, insurance, working hours, and visa arrangements directly with Shangri-La. Hong Kong’s humid summers and typhoon season require preparation, but the city offers an energetic lifestyle and strong international exposure.
