Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in luxury hotels, tourism, restaurants, retail, finance, technology and professional services. Hospitality roles are concentrated on Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, Lantau and major resort districts, with demand often rising during conferences and peak travel seasons. The culture combines Chinese traditions, international influences, efficient public transport and a fast-paced working style. Residents enjoy excellent food, shopping, hiking, beaches and convenient ferry access to outlying islands, although housing and daily expenses can be high. Most foreign employees need an employment visa sponsored by their employer under the General Employment Policy; applicants normally need a confirmed job, suitable qualifications and relevant experience. Dependants may usually apply for dependant visas. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, a local bank account, health insurance details and an Octopus transport card before or soon after arrival.
