Working in Hong Kong

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hospitality, finance, retail, logistics, technology, aviation and professional services. The city combines Cantonese traditions with international influences, featuring excellent food, festivals, dense urban neighbourhoods, hiking trails and easy access to beaches and outlying islands. Life is fast-paced and convenient, although accommodation can be expensive and space is limited. Hong Kong uses the Hong Kong dollar, and public transport is extensive and efficient. Overseas professionals normally need an employment visa sponsored by an employer before starting work; approval depends on qualifications, a confirmed job and prevailing salary conditions. Security roles may also require local licensing, such as a Security Personnel Permit. Candidates should confirm visa sponsorship, licensing, medical requirements and accommodation arrangements with Shangri-La. Popular residential areas vary from Kowloon and the New Territories to Hong Kong Island, depending on budget and commute.
