Hong Kong is a highly connected international city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with excellent public transport and a fast-paced urban lifestyle. Hospitality, engineering, facilities management, construction, finance, retail and technology offer regular employment opportunities. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences; workplaces value punctuality, efficiency, teamwork and customer service. Rent can be expensive, especially near major business districts, although public transport makes commuting from less central areas practical. Employees usually need an employment visa sponsored by a Hong Kong employer before starting work. Applicants commonly provide qualifications, experience, a passport and proof that the role cannot readily be filled locally. New arrivals should budget for accommodation, transport, healthcare and visa costs, and check current immigration rules before relocating.
