About the employer

Established in 1935, the group provides retail and commercial banking, wealth management, investment banking, transaction banking, and treasury services to individuals, businesses, and institutions. UOB has a significant presence in Malaysia, serving corporate clients, small and medium-sized enterprises, and consumers through branches, digital channels, and specialist banking teams. The bank places strong emphasis on responsible growth, regulatory compliance, risk management, customer service, and digital transformation. Its anti-financial-crime functions support the prevention of money laundering, terrorism financing, fraud, sanctions breaches, and other financial misconduct. Employees can expect a structured banking environment, regional collaboration, formal governance standards, and opportunities to work with colleagues across ASEAN markets.

Working in Malaysia

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in banking, technology, shared services, manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and tourism, with Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley serving as the main employment hubs. The country has a multicultural society shaped by Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous communities, and English is widely used in professional workplaces. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in Singapore, although central Kuala Lumpur housing can be expensive. Employees enjoy diverse food, modern shopping centres, efficient transport, tropical weather, and easy access to destinations such as Langkawi, Penang, Sabah, and Sarawak. Foreign professionals normally require an Employment Pass sponsored by their employer; approval depends on salary, qualifications, and the role. Relocating employees should arrange accommodation, healthcare coverage, banking, tax registration, and local transport. Malaysia is well suited to professionals seeking regional careers with a comfortable urban lifestyle and nearby beaches, rainforests, and islands.
